Welcome to a new feature on Global Social Media News’ African American channel, we’re calling it “The Lobby.” We know that many of our readers also have memberships in hundreds if not thousands of national and local professional, trade, fraternal, social and religious organizations. Most of these organizations hold annual regional and national conferences and conventions.
While it’s true that conference participants usually gain great insights from the various workshops and panels that are typically offered, we also know that often the real networking and exchanging of ideas and information often occurs outside the formal settings of conference rooms and auditoriums. The lobby is where everything from business cards to gossip usually takes place. So, it’s going to be our goal to try and bring you the essence of those informal, but important, conversations regularly here in “The Lobby.”
Today’s Lobby is filled with lots of Black Greek news! Happy Founder’s Day to the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma! Did you hear about the guy running for office in Philly who claimed to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha frat, but got busted when a real brother tried to greet him with the frat grip and dude had no idea what was going on? Kappa Alpha Psi is mourning the passing of Arthur Carter; Carter was also a Tuskegee Airman and former controller of the Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper. Sigma Gamma Rho is mighty proud of Toyinda Wilson-Long who was recently featured in a newspaper column for her volunteer work. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority suspends two members who took part in the controversial VH-1 reality show Sorority Sisters. Meanwhile, sisters from a Maryland chapter of Delta Sigma Theta step in to help a food bank in need.
